Description: Sometimes you just need to be brave. Nothing passive or thoughtful. There are no nuances or subtleties. Sometimes you just need to make a statement… like neon colors in a pastel world. NEON is a concept library put together by producer and engineer extraordinaire, Chris Zane.
As the name suggests, these drums are bright, bold and powerful. They are loud and proud. But let’s be honest, they’re not loud just for the sake of being loud. Our industry is saturated with ringing and thumping indie rock drums and the like.
These drums are more colorful, which ultimately makes them more practical and usable. Expressionist artist Jackson Pollock once said, “Every good artist paints what he is.” NEON is a direct reflection of its designer Chris Zane.
Albums such as “Matter” and “When the Night” by Indie rock legends St. Lucia showcase Chris’ unique production and mixing style. NEON drums with a great ironic feel and a great story. For example, some of the drums are old but quite explosive.
Some of them are dense and dry without being meek or calm. The centerpiece of the library is a bespoke Eames kit from CZ – handmade by Bay Stater, Joe Mac. And of course, that’s all the hardware – vintage Neves, Pultecs, APIs, Chandler, old Neumanns, AKGs, plus some awesome UAD plugins.
And if all that’s not enough, NEON features a performance by The Sound Icon’s legendary drummer, Paul Maburi.
