An artist in every sense of the word, Johnny Yono carries all the passion and charisma that great musicians are made of. Born and raised in suburban Detroit, Michigan had a very active upbringing, playing everything from ice hockey to drumming in rock bands before pursuing an acting career.
After high school, he became fascinated with the Motor City rave scene, and thanks to Detroit’s legendary underground dance culture, Johnny’s love of electronic music began to blossom. However, at the time, acting was Johnny’s main focus, and in his early twenties, he traveled to Los Angeles to fulfill his grand dream of being on the big screen. Johnny landed numerous roles in TV shows and independent films and managed to stay afloat, but continued to be involved in Los Angeles’ ever-growing electronic music industry.
Inspired by Armin Van Buuren, Paul Van Dyke, Sasha and Digweed and many more, Johnny could no longer ignore his true calling. He set up a small studio and started doing dance music. After experimenting with different sounds, he finally entered the realm of trance and has remained there ever since. Standing out with his single Fairfax, Johnny signed with the powerful British label Trance Enhanced Recordings.
The track received huge support from many artists including Armin van Buuren on “A State Of Trance” and Markus Schulz on “Global DJ Broadcast” where it was named “Global Selection”. After “Fairfax” Johnny continued the series of releases of quality dance tracks. Johnny, as one of the genre’s brightest and most up-and-coming talents, released the energetic Tech-Trance monster “The Machine” (with Juventa) and his many classics on Lange Recordings such as “Orion” and “Exodus”.
In recent years, he has made his mark on renowned industry publications such as Armada Music, Euphonic Records, Garuda Music, Damaged Records and Perfecto Records, where he has not only remixed Paul Oakenfold covers of classics, “Adagio For Strings” and “Barber’s Adagio For Strings”. Hold That Sucker Down’ but also released his first EP ‘Poison Whispers’ which received numerous performances from Armin van Buuren on ‘A State Of Trance’ as well as support from Ferry Corsten, Mark Sherry, Lange, Andy Moore, Simon Patterson and many others.
As a DJ, Johnny has shared the stage with many key players in the forefront of trance including Dash Berlin, Ferry Corsten, Aly & Fila, Paul Oakenfold, Andrew Rayel, W&W, Cosmic Gate, Lange, Omnia, Kyau & Albert, Solarstone, Alex MORPH, Jordan Suckley, Photographer and many others. He is, without a doubt, one of the most promising rising stars in trance music today and is definitely someone you will keep an eye on for years to come. You can catch his monthly radio show “White Light Sessions” every second Tuesday of the month on Digitally Imported (DI.FM).
