The M60 is a belt-fed machine gun that fires the 7.62 mm NATO cartridge (.308 winchester) commonly Used in larger rifles. The M60 Used for this collection is a M60E3: An updated, lightweight version adopted in the 1980s. The M60E3 was introduced circa 1986 in an attempt to remedy problem with earlier versions of the M60 for infantry use. It is a lightweight, β€œimproved” version intended to reduce the load carried by the gunner.

The gun was recorded on three separate occasions. There were two sessions of shooting and foley and one extra foley session. All the foley was recorded outside as the gun is most likely Used in that environment. The first shooting session captured the medium close and distant perspectives from many positions in mono and stereo. The second shooting session captured the close up and medium distant perspectives in mono and stereo to round out the collection. All aspects of the gun were recorded including single and multiple burst, shooting mechanisms, handling and bullet belt actions.
This comprehensive collection includes the 96K mastered and processed sounds and as a bonus, the original raw sounds recorded at 192K from the two Sound Devices SD-702 recorders and a Fostex FR-2.
