Description: Splice Sessions is a new label from Splice. By releasing semi-annual publications, we will conduct listeners on an expedition on the sound histories of regions that have had and continue to have a lasting impact on the creation of music all over the world. We will exalt and pay tribute to creators, cultures and instruments from around the world who have influenced contemporary music while providing unparalleled access to unique sounds.
This premier edition features the sounds of Senegal. We went to the creative impulse of the region to understand the past, present and future of its musical landscape. Senegal has a rich and textured musical history. Relying heavily on drums, music was a form of communication at a distance very similar to smoke signals, and we wanted to catch it.
