Description: Of course, one could call Harold O’Neill a jazz pianist, but it would be just as accurate to call him a keyboardist-cryptologist. His talents clarify and slip away, making the simple seem complex and the complex simple. Its sound reaches you far outside the room, filtered through layers of drywall, insulation and brick, no less powerful. A simple melodic progression played by O’Neill can lift you out of your existential stupor. And once you catch a glimpse of his waving fingers, the subtle dance between rhythm and tone, you need more. Jay-Z, U2, Ski Beats, Bobby Watson and Boardwalk Empire have all relied on O’Neill for his particular style of play, and we can see why.
For Soul Serum Keys, we wanted something different than your average pack of future-oriented Serum presets, so we invited O’Neill to visit our studio and play jazz and soul keyboard arrangements with his special touch. We recorded both his sound and his midi output, capturing the essence of his timing and bar. We turned this performance into unique Serum presets that match the general atmosphere of what he played: jazz-infused keys and soul-infused sounds. In addition to the presets, we’ve included midi basics and the original sound cut into arrange-ready loops and one-shot frames.
