Description: The U2A is a tribute to what is widely considered the best optical compressor of all time. It celebrates the bold minimalism and beautiful non-linearities that formed the basis of the legend, while at the same time providing unique access to the corresponding states of system components for unconventional flexibility and control.
In the analog world, there is a lot of variation in how individual hardware blocks sound and behave due to the effects of physical aging. U2A takes advantage of this phenomenon by allowing you to combine a freshly serviced device with a new opto element and an old vintage device in its original condition. Meanwhile, the almost magical program-dependent response of the T4B attenuator can be adjusted using a separate knob.
The U2A assigns gain and THD feed to separate controls so opto-compression and tube saturation can be adjusted independently of each other. Combined with onboard parallel processing and the usual suspects like the R37’s infamous sidechain filter network and limiter mode switch, the ultimate tool for powerful and musical leveling has just become… complete.

The “Aging” option resolves the hardware reference question: is it based on a new machine or an old one? U2A can be both, and the user is given access to the resulting effects with just one knob.
The natural behavior of the T4B optic element is key to making LA-2A based designs align as smoothly and naturally as possible. There is nothing better if a fixed scheme fits, but the likelihood that it won’t fit is small. The Recovery handle adds more flexibility in terms of timing to a tried and tested design.
Two audio processors in one: U2A decouples the degree of saturation generated in the tube amplifier stage from the actual amount of gain being set. Now compression and saturation can be used alone or in a great combination to easily achieve that unique fat compression everyone loves.
Of course, the U2A offers a built-in mix control for parallel compression/saturation. All of the wonderful effects described above can be added to the original signal either in small doses or in full.
Ease of Use: Data compression doesn’t get any easier than with LA2A. Additional features were created in this spirit: a single control for each function, hiding all the technological complexity under the hood.
