Description:Abbey Road | 70s DRUMMER extended version of the original Abbey Road | 70s Drums, updated to integrate developments into KONTAKT 5. All new Abbey Road DRUMMER instruments include advanced Mixer and Groove features.
Two vintage drum kits were chosen to record the Abbey Road 70s Drums project:
•• First kit – Ludwig® Vistalite™ Tequila Sunrise from the mid 70’s with 26″ kick, 14″ rack toms
and 16″ and 18″ floor toms. The Ludwig® setup was recorded in an open space in Studio 2 to
Capture the large spatial sound of an instrument with an alternative overhead mic setup
addition to the traditional way of placing stereo overhead microphones.
This alternative setup sees a single microphone placed directly above the worker
drum, towards the center of the head. Another microphone is placed closer to the floor tom in
direction of the hat. This microphone arrangement is used in conjunction with an overhead worker microphone
drum and an external kick mic to achieve the sound that some
sound engineers and is called the “Glyn Johns” installation.
• The second setup is a vintage Premier® from the 70’s with 22″, 13″, 14″ and 16″ instrument sizes. In addition, there was
many carpets were installed to achieve a certain sound that was very popular in
70s. Vintage snares used in this project:
•• Premier® 2000 14 x 5
•• Ludwig® Black beauty 14 x 6.5
The sessions featured a set of vintage 70’s Paiste™ 2002 cymbals and a vintage cymbal set
Zildjian™.
