THE SOUND OF BERLIN
Amid the dust of the Berlin Wall’s collapse, a stark, cold techno sound was forged. It ruled Berlin until its hard edges were stripped away in favor of minimal techno’s lean layers and abstracted elements. Minimal developed, too, and its sparse percussion melted with polished grooves and pulsing synths to create the atmospheric, ethereal techno of contemporary Berlin. DEEP MATTER delivers precisely this sound – one embodied by labels like Steyoyoke, Crossfrontier Audio, and Stil vor Talent.
