Description: This release of Splice Originals was created in collaboration with multi-instrumentalist, composer, arranger and music producer Stuart Bogey. Featuring strings, saxophones, flutes, rhodes, piano, guitar, harp, vocals and Hammond organ, this set is dedicated to the cinematic orchestral styles of jazz and soul of the 60s and 70s.
We drew influences from Philadelphia orchestral soul bands such as the O’Jays and Billy Paul, combined with soul jazz artists such as Lonnie Liston Smith and Roy Ayers. There is also a large dose of Henry Mancini, Ray Conniff and Ennio Morricone for orchestral sensibilities.
As much as we loved the iconic style of cinematic orchestration, we couldn’t leave those sounds as they were. We resampled stacks and other elements in the style of J Dilla, KRS One and other boom-bap-hip-hop artists. The collection also features a hefty dose of hip-hop and trap drums, crafted to suit any style of hip-hop or pop.
